Heatwave Grips Canada: Extreme Temperatures and Weather Warnings

Nearly all provinces and one territory in Canada are experiencing higher-than-normal temperatures this week, with humidex values soaring close to 40°C in some regions. According to CTV Your Morning’s meteorologist Kelsey McEwen, heat warnings and severe weather alerts have been issued across the country.

Southwestern Ontario and Severe Thunderstorms

Southwestern Ontario is under a severe thunderstorm watch on Tuesday morning. The Toronto and Ottawa areas are also facing a moderate risk of storms, which could bring heavy rain, strong winds, and hail.

Extreme Heat in Quebec

Montreal is forecast to experience extreme heat on Tuesday, with temperatures expected to feel as warm as 35 to 37°C until Wednesday night. Although southern Ontario and Quebec are also hot, no warnings were in place early Tuesday morning.

Atlantic Canada’s Heatwave

Nearly all regions of Atlantic Canada, except for Nova Scotia’s southern-most communities, are facing extreme heat. In New Brunswick, temperatures are predicted to reach highs of 28 to 31°C, with humidex levels of 36 to 38. Prince Edward Island can expect similar conditions, with humidex values up to 39. Nova Scotia will see warm conditions that may improve by Wednesday night, although northern Nova Scotia could experience extreme heat into Thursday. Newfoundland and Labrador currently have no alerts in effect.

Prolonged Heat in Alberta

Alberta could see extreme heat continue for eight to ten days, with highs of 28 to 35°C and overnight temperatures between 12 and 20°C.
