The Edmonton Oilers may not have home ice advantage when they face the Florida Panthers to clinch the Stanley Cup on Monday night, but their fans’ support will be felt across Canada. From rinkside watch parties to living rooms, the excitement is palpable.

Derrick DeMone, an Oilers fan from Sydney, N.S., exemplifies the nationwide enthusiasm. His home, decorated with Oilers memorabilia, will be the setting for a family watch party with his sons, aged 24, 14, and 12. Despite being surrounded by fans of other teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, and Boston Bruins, DeMone is known locally for his unwavering support of the Oilers.

In Edmonton, thousands of fans have been flocking to Rogers Place for playoff games, with even more gathering outside to watch on giant screens. Among the crowd will be Mary Loewen, affectionately known as “Mama Stanley,” who dresses up as the Stanley Cup to cheer on the team and take photos with fellow fans. Loewen expressed her preference for staying in Edmonton over traveling to Florida, saying, “I want to be with the people in my kingdom.”

Seniors homes are also buzzing with Oilers fever. At Everitt Gardens in St. Albert, residents have been showing their support by dressing in jerseys and face paint. Lori Kary, the home’s recreation therapist, shared that one resident enjoys watching the games in his suite but opens his door to cheer loudly when the Oilers win.

As the Oilers prepare for the crucial game, the team knows that they have the unwavering support of fans from coast to coast. The collective hope is that Monday night will bring a historic victory, adding another Stanley Cup to the franchise’s storied history.
