During a six-week run of the off-Broadway show “Grounded” in 2015, Hathaway portrayed a pregnant pilot, requiring her to enact childbirth every night. It was during this period that she encountered the heartbreak of miscarriage. Despite the emotional turmoil, Hathaway persevered through the performances, pretending that everything was fine on stage while confiding in friends backstage.

The actress, now 41 and a mother of two, shared her fertility struggles with the public through an Instagram post in July 2019, announcing her second pregnancy. Hathaway emphasized the importance of acknowledging the complexities of conception and infertility, advocating for greater understanding and support for those undergoing similar challenges.

In her interview, she expressed her determination not to feel ashamed of her experience, highlighting the prevalence of miscarriages and the need to break the silence surrounding them. Hathaway’s openness has resonated with many, with women approaching her to share their own stories, finding solace in her willingness to speak out.
