China Reaffirms Support for Pakistan’s Financial Stability
In a significant development, China has once again extended its support to Pakistan, its longstanding ally, in addressing its financial challenges. Vice-Premier Zhang Guoqing affirmed China’s commitment during a crucial meeting with Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held on the sidelines of the First Nuclear Energy Summit in Brussels.
During the meeting, both sides emphasized the enduring cooperation between Pakistan and China in the field of civil nuclear technology, underscoring the depth of their strategic partnership. Vice-Premier Zhang Guoqing and Minister Ishaq Dar highlighted the traditional “Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership” and the strong friendship between the two nations as exemplary and unique.
Foreign Minister Dar reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast support for the One-China policy, reaffirming the country’s unwavering commitment to its relations with China. He also emphasized Pakistan’s strong dedication to the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a landmark initiative aimed at fostering economic development and connectivity between the two countries.
Moreover, discussions during the meeting touched upon the potential areas for further collaboration between Pakistan and China, including industry, mining, and information technology. China’s Vice-Premier expressed readiness to enhance CPEC and deepen cooperation across various sectors to strengthen the bilateral ties.
The meeting comes at a critical juncture for Pakistan, as the country grapples with a challenging economic situation. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently underscored the urgent need for financial assistance, acknowledging that Pakistan’s survival hinges on securing a new agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). While expressing optimism about receiving a new tranche of loans from the IMF soon, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the necessity of another program to address the country’s long-term economic challenges.
China’s reaffirmation of support for Pakistan’s financial stability underscores the strategic partnership between the two nations and highlights China’s pivotal role in bolstering Pakistan’s economic resilience. As Pakistan navigates its economic challenges, the continued cooperation and assistance from China are expected to play a crucial role in promoting sustainable development and prosperity in the region.
