PM Urges Neighbouring Nations to Unite Against Terrorism

In a resolute stance against cross-border terrorism, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to combatting terrorism during a televised federal cabinet meeting. The prime minister’s remarks come in the wake of the tragic Mir Ali attack in North Waziristan, which resulted in the martyrdom of seven army soldiers, including a lieutenant colonel and captain.

Expressing Pakistan’s stance unequivocally, Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized that the nation will not tolerate any form of terrorism emanating from neighbouring territories. He underscored the imperative need for decisive action against terrorists who exploit Afghan soil to launch attacks on Pakistani soil.

Following the Mir Ali attack, Pakistani forces conducted intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in border regions within Afghanistan, targeting terrorists responsible for incursions into Pakistan. Paying tribute to the valiant soldiers who sacrificed their lives in defense of the nation, the prime minister hailed the unwavering dedication of the Pakistan Army.

Prime Minister Shehbaz extended an olive branch to neighbouring countries, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to fostering peaceful relations and cooperation. He urged regional leaders to unite in the fight against terrorism, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts to secure the region and promote stability.

Transitioning to economic matters, the prime minister underscored the government’s resolve to alleviate Pakistan’s debt burden, emphasizing the detrimental impact of excessive borrowing on the nation’s economy. Despite recent developments such as the IMF’s staff-level agreement on the Stand-By Arrangement, Prime Minister Shehbaz stressed the need for a new IMF program and reiterated the government’s commitment to expanding the tax base.

In a gesture of austerity and solidarity with the nation, Prime Minister Shehbaz and his cabinet members announced the voluntary forfeiture of their salaries and privileges, aligning with the government’s austerity drive. Additionally, the cabinet approved the formation of the Pakistan International Airlines Holding Company, a significant step toward the privatization of the national flag carrier.

Amidst solemn remembrance for the martyrs of the Mir Ali attack, the cabinet received a briefing on the IMF agreement from Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, emphasizing the government’s efforts to revive the national economy and bolster investor confidence.
