Yulia Navalny, wife of the late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, pays a heartfelt tribute to her husband on Instagram, expressing her gratitude for their years together amidst mounting concerns of Kremlin repression. As supporters gather to bid farewell at Navalny’s funeral in Moscow, tensions run high amid the battle with authorities over the release of his body following his untimely death.

Yulia Navalny, alongside her two children, remains abroad, opting against returning to Russia amidst fears of potential repercussions from the Kremlin. In a poignant Instagram post, she reflects on her husband’s legacy, thanking him for 26 years of cherished memories and pledging to honor his memory.

Meanwhile, in southeastern Moscow, relatives and supporters gather for Navalny’s funeral, marked by solemn tributes and expressions of solidarity. Despite challenges in securing a venue, a church in the Maryino district eventually hosts the service, drawing hundreds of mourners.

The atmosphere outside the church is tense, with authorities deploying riot police and crowd-control barriers. Despite the obstacles, supporters pay their respects as Navalny’s coffin arrives, chanting his name and expressing their grief.

Inside the church, mourners gather around an open casket adorned with flowers, with Navalny’s mother by his side, holding a candle in solemn remembrance. The presence of Western diplomats, including Canada’s ambassador to Russia, underscores the international significance of Navalny’s legacy and the ongoing struggle for democratic values in Russia.

Among the attendees are presidential hopefuls Boris Nadezhdin and Yekaterina Duntsova, both barred from running against President Vladimir Putin in the upcoming elections. Their presence symbolizes the broader political tensions and the aspirations for change within Russian society.
