Grimes’ Mother Accuses Elon Musk of Withholding Grandchildren
The mother of musician Grimes has publicly accused Elon Musk of withholding her three grandchildren and preventing them from visiting their dying great-grandmother in Canada. Sandy Garossino, a columnist with the National Observer, took to X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday to make the emotional plea, stating that she has no other means of contacting the billionaire.
Garossino revealed that her 93-year-old mother is in an end-of-life palliative care facility and “yearns to see and hold Claire’s children one last time.” Grimes, whose real name is Claire Elise Boucher, shares three children with Musk: four-year-old X Æ A-Xii (known as X), two-year-old Exa Dark Sideræl, and Techno (Tau) Mechanicus. The couple, who have had an on-and-off relationship over the years, are currently embroiled in a legal battle for custody of their children, with Grimes previously claiming that Musk would not allow her access to one of their children.
In her message to Musk, Garossino recounted their last interaction, mentioning it was “nice” to see him on Father’s Day in June and hoped he received the card she helped X make. She then described the heartache her mother felt when a planned visit by Grimes’ children to celebrate her birthday was abruptly canceled. Garossino alleged that Musk was withholding the children and their necessary passport documents from Grimes, preventing the trip.
“I am alarmed to learn that the children cannot come as you are withholding them and their needed passport documents from Claire,” Garossino wrote. “It was even more troubling to see you and X on television at the Olympics in Paris yesterday, after your DC trip earlier in the week.”
Garossino questioned the whereabouts of the other two children during Musk’s visit to Paris and who was caring for them, stressing that they were supposed to be with their mother in Canada. She implored Musk to honor his agreement and return the children so they could see their great-grandmother before it was too late.
“This is so painful for my mother, and concerning for the kids. Time is of the essence now,” she concluded, urging Musk to bring the children to Canada.
Musk has not responded to Garossino’s plea on X or commented publicly on the situation.
Grimes, born and raised in Vancouver, is renowned for her experimental electropop music, including hits like “Genesis” and “4ÆM.” Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has 12 known children. The birth of his 12th child, his third with Neuralink Corp. director Shivon Zilis, was revealed in June.
Musk’s family includes six children with Canadian author Justine Wilson, to whom he was married from 2000 to 2008. Their first child, Nevada, tragically died of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) in 2002 at 10 weeks old. Musk and Wilson have twins, Griffin and Vivian, born in 2004, and triplets, Kai, Saxon, and Damian, born in 2006.
