In a shocking incident just days before the Olympics, an Australian woman was reportedly gangraped by five men in Paris, French police confirmed. The horrifying crime occurred after midnight on July 20, 2024, in the bustling Pigalle district, an area known for its vibrant nightlife.

CCTV footage revealed the 25-year-old victim seeking refuge in a kebab shop following the traumatic event. The footage showed her in a state of distress, with her dress partially torn and worn inside out. According to media reports, the woman had been drinking in bars and clubs around the famous Moulin Rouge cabaret on the evening of July 19 when the men approached her in an unspecified location.

The woman told police that the five men, described as being of “African appearance,” attacked her around 5 a.m. She managed to escape and sought help at the kebab shop. The CCTV footage captured her entering the shop, visibly terrified, and pleading for assistance from the staff.

In a disturbing twist, minutes after the woman entered the shop, a man followed her in. The woman identified him as one of her attackers. The man was seen patting the woman on the back and ordering food. A staff member attempted to tackle him, but he eventually left the shop. Emergency responders were called to assist the woman, who was disoriented and unable to speak French. She was then taken to a hospital for further care.

The Paris Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that police are actively investigating the case. Officers are reviewing CCTV footage and gathering evidence to identify the perpetrators. As of now, no arrests have been made. The woman, who had initially planned to fly home the day after the attack, has decided to stay in Paris to aid the investigation.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local and international communities, especially with the Olympics set to begin in just a week. Safety concerns are mounting as Paris prepares to host athletes and tourists from around the world.

The French police are under pressure to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety of residents and visitors. This tragic event highlights the ongoing issue of violence against women and the need for stringent measures to protect vulnerable individuals.

As the investigation continues, the international community watches closely. The Paris Prosecutor’s Office and French police are committed to resolving this case and supporting the victim. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of safety and vigilance, especially in the lead-up to major global events like the Olympics.
