President Joe Biden has announced a comprehensive security review following a failed assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. This decision was made from the White House on Sunday afternoon in response to the shocking incident that unfolded at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

“There is no place in America for this kind of violence or any violence for that matter. An assassination attempt is contrary to everything we stand for as a nation,” President Biden declared to reporters. He emphasized that such acts are antithetical to American values, stressing, “It’s not who we are as a nation. It’s not America, and we cannot allow this to happen.”

Biden is scheduled to address the nation from the Oval Office at 8 p.m. Eastern time, where he is expected to further discuss the incident and his administration’s response.

The assassination attempt occurred during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday. The event turned deadly when a shooter opened fire, resulting in two fatalities, including the assailant. Former President Trump sustained an injury, reportedly being shot in the right ear, but managed to show defiance by pumping his fist as he was quickly escorted by the Secret Service to his SUV.

The chaotic scene saw one attendee killed and two spectators critically injured. The Secret Service confirmed that the suspected shooter, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was neutralized after attacking from an elevated position outside the rally venue.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the weapon used by Crooks was purchased by his father at least six months ago. Authorities are delving into how Crooks, a registered Republican voter in Pennsylvania, acquired the gun and are seeking to uncover his motives. President Biden cautioned against jumping to conclusions about the shooter’s intent.

In addition to the security review, Biden has directed the Secret Service to provide Trump with “every resource” necessary for his safety. Furthermore, the head of the agency has been instructed to reassess security measures for the upcoming Republican National Convention, where Trump is slated to speak on Monday.

Emphasizing the importance of unity, President Biden stated, “Unity is the most elusive goal of all, but nothing is more important than that right now. We’ll debate and we’ll disagree, that’s not going to change, but we’re going to not lose sight of who we are as Americans.”

Biden reiterated the need for the nation to come together in the face of such threats, urging, “We must unite as one nation to demonstrate who we are.”

The attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump has sent shockwaves across the nation, prompting a swift response from the Biden administration. As investigations continue, the focus remains on ensuring the safety and security of public figures and the American populace.
