Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his outrage and concern in a statement released Saturday night, approximately two hours after the incident. “I’m sickened by the shooting at former President Trump,” Trudeau said. “It cannot be overstated — political violence is never acceptable. My thoughts are with former President Trump, those at the event, and all Americans.”

Law enforcement officials have confirmed that the shooting appeared to be an assassination attempt on Trump as he spoke during the rally. The former president, with visible blood on his ear, was swiftly escorted off the stage by U.S. Secret Service agents. Despite the alarming incident, Trump’s campaign reassured the public that he was “fine.”

A local prosecutor reported that the suspected gunman and at least one attendee were killed in the shooting. Additionally, the Secret Service indicated that two spectators were critically injured.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre issued a stern condemnation of the attack. “I condemn in the strongest of terms the attempted murder of former President Trump today,” he stated. “I am relieved he is safe. My prayers are with other innocent people harmed or killed by this heinous act. I am also happy that the suspected shooter is dead. Democracy must prevail.”

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh emphasized the need for unity against political violence. “There is no room for violence at any political event. We must all stand united against political violence wherever it happens,” Singh said. “My thoughts are with former President Trump and his family, as well as with the other victims of this shooting. And my gratitude to the law enforcement members and first responders who prevented further deaths.”

Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet also denounced the attack in a statement. “Our party unequivocally denounces the attack against former president Trump,” he declared. “Democracy is the most powerful instrument for the common good. Hate and violence create fear, but convince no one. Our condolences to the loved ones of the innocent victim and to the shaken citizens.”

The shooting at Donald Trump’s campaign rally has triggered widespread condemnation from Canadian political leaders, highlighting the universal stance against political violence. As investigations continue, the focus remains on ensuring the safety and security of all political figures and maintaining democratic integrity.
