Lewis Hamilton has ended his long wait for a Formula 1 victory, triumphing in front of his home crowd at the British Grand Prix on Sunday. This marks Hamilton’s 104th career win, breaking a winless streak of 945 days, the longest of his career.

Hamilton’s victory at Silverstone is particularly significant as it is his last British GP with Mercedes before he joins Ferrari next year. The 39-year-old driver reflected on the milestone, saying, “This could be one of the most special for me, if not the most special.”

Hamilton’s win is his first since the penultimate race of the 2021 season in Saudi Arabia, spanning more than 50 races without a victory. His victory at Silverstone also makes him the first F1 driver to win on any track nine times.

Hamilton’s emotional celebration began as soon as he crossed the finish line, narrowly edging out Max Verstappen by 1.5 seconds. Hamilton shared his elation with his team, his father, and the enthusiastic home crowd. “I can see you lap by lap, there’s just no greater feeling,” he told the cheering fans, proudly waving a British flag.

The race began with high hopes for a home win, as Hamilton’s Mercedes teammate George Russell started on pole position, with Hamilton in second and Lando Norris in third. However, Russell’s race was cut short on Lap 34 due to a water system issue.

Verstappen, aiming for his fourth consecutive F1 title, managed to overtake Norris with four laps remaining but could not catch Hamilton. The damp track conditions added to the challenge, but Hamilton maintained his lead to secure the win.

As Hamilton looks forward to joining Ferrari next year, he leaves Mercedes on a high note with a historic win at Silverstone. “Leaving on a high,” Hamilton remarked, expressing his gratitude and love for his current team.

When asked about his celebration plans, Hamilton revealed his simple yet heartfelt intention: “With a curry. I love Indian food.”

Lewis Hamilton’s remarkable win at the British Grand Prix not only ends his winless streak but also sets a new record at Silverstone. His triumph is a testament to his enduring skill and determination, ensuring his place as one of the greatest drivers in Formula 1 history.
