Canadian winger Tajon Buchanan is set to undergo surgery on Wednesday after breaking his tibia during practice ahead of Canada’s Copa America quarterfinal match against Venezuela.

The injury occurred during a training session on Tuesday in Fort Worth, Texas. Buchanan, an Inter Milan attacker, sustained a lower leg injury that led to the immediate cancellation of the training session. He was swiftly taken to a local hospital in an ambulance for further evaluation and treatment.

Canada Soccer released a brief statement confirming Buchanan’s injury and subsequent transportation to the hospital. A spokesman later confirmed that surgery is scheduled to repair the broken tibia.

Buchanan signed with Inter Milan from Belgium’s Club Brugge in January, making history as the first Canadian to play in Serie A. The 25-year-old from Brampton, Ontario, has been a crucial player for Canada, participating in all three Copa America games so far.

Canada, currently ranked 48th in the world, is set to face No. 54 Venezuela on Friday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Buchanan’s absence will be a significant blow to the team as they prepare for this critical match.

Buchanan’s injury is a major setback for Team Canada, which has been relying on his skills and experience throughout the tournament. The team will need to regroup and adjust their strategy to overcome this challenge in the upcoming quarterfinal against Venezuela.

Tajon Buchanan’s unfortunate injury and impending surgery mark a difficult moment for Canadian soccer fans and the national team. As they prepare for the Copa America quarterfinals, the team’s resilience and adaptability will be tested. Fans and teammates alike hope for Buchanan’s swift recovery and look forward to his return to the pitch.
