Charlie Woods, the 15-year-old son of golf legend Tiger Woods, has secured his place in his first USGA championship. On Wednesday, Charlie led the qualifiers for the U.S. Junior Amateur, to be held next month at Oakland Hills.

Charlie Woods began his round at Eagle Trace Golf Club with a bogey and a double bogey but managed to recover impressively. He finished with a 1-under 71, becoming the medalist from his qualifier and one of four players to advance from the site.

“I didn’t play great my first two holes, but I played really good for the last 16. I just told myself not to make any more bogeys or doubles and I took advantage of some nice birdie looks when I had them,” Woods said.

Tiger Woods was 14 when he first qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur, eventually winning his first title a year later at Bay Hill. He remains the only player to win the U.S. Junior Amateur three times consecutively. Charlie Woods is now set to continue his father’s legacy in the prestigious tournament.

The U.S. Junior Amateur is scheduled for July 22-28 at Oakland Hills, located in the suburbs of Detroit. Charlie will compete among 264 players, undergoing 36 holes of stroke play on both the North and South courses. The top 64 players will advance to match play.

Tiger Woods, a nine-time USGA champion, won three straight U.S. Junior Amateurs, three consecutive U.S. Amateurs, and three U.S. Open titles. His son, Charlie, aspires to follow this path.

“The USGA means a lot to me,” Charlie Woods said. “I want to win USGA championships and hopefully one day the U.S. Open.”
