NBA stars Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Andrew Wiggins, and Jamal Murray will headline the Canadian men’s basketball team at the Paris Olympics in July. Canada Basketball announced the roster Wednesday afternoon, confirming the team’s strong lineup for the upcoming international competition.

The Canadian men’s basketball team will hold a training camp from June 28 to July 7 in Toronto, where they will prepare for the Olympics. The camp is crucial for building team chemistry and honing strategies ahead of the games.

The announcement follows a historic year for Canadian basketball. In 2023, the team secured its first-ever medal at a FIBA World Cup, clinching bronze after defeating the United States in a thrilling match last September in Manila, Philippines. This victory marked a significant milestone in Canadian basketball history.

Canada qualified for the Paris Olympics by triumphing over Spain in the quarterfinals of the FIBA World Cup. The upcoming games will mark Canada’s first men’s basketball appearance at the Olympics since the Sydney Games in 2000, breaking a 24-year hiatus.

Ranked seventh globally, Canada is placed in Group A alongside Australia and the winners of Olympic qualifying tournaments from Spain and Greece. The team will commence its Olympic journey against the winner of the Spain tournament on July 27 in Lille, France.

With NBA talents like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Andrew Wiggins, and Jamal Murray leading the charge, the Canadian men’s basketball team is poised for a strong performance at the Paris Olympics. Their preparation in Toronto and historic momentum set high expectations for their return to the Olympic stage.
