Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC) and member of the Communist Party’s Central Committee, is scheduled to visit Islamabad from June 20-22, 2024, at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar.

During his visit, Liu will co-chair the Third Meeting of the Pakistan-China Joint Consultative Mechanism (JCM) of the Political Parties on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) alongside Dar.

He will also engage with senior civil and military leadership in Pakistan.

Established in 2019, the JCM of Political Parties on CPEC serves as a regular consultation platform between the Communist Party of China and various political parties in Pakistan. The first meeting took place on March 19, 2019, in Beijing, and the second was held virtually on August 20, 2020.

At the upcoming meeting, both nations will review the progress of CPEC projects, assessing their impact on Pakistan’s socio-economic development. Discussions will also focus on the upgradation and extension of CPEC for enhanced regional connectivity.

Liu Jianchao’s visit underscores the importance of high-level exchanges between Pakistan and China. These interactions reflect the commitment of both nations to deepen their “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.” Key objectives include reaffirming mutual support on core issues, advancing high-quality development of CPEC, and enhancing communication on regional and global developments.

Liu Jianchao’s visit to Islamabad highlights the ongoing efforts to bolster the strategic partnership between Pakistan and China. The Third Meeting of the JCM is expected to further solidify the collaborative efforts on CPEC, ensuring its continued contribution to regional connectivity and socio-economic development.
