Pakistanis celebrated the sacred festival of Eid ul Adha on Monday with a somber reflection on the ongoing Gaza war that has resulted in significant Palestinian casualties.

The Gaza health ministry reports a devastating toll of 37,337 killed and 85,299 injured since Israel’s military offensive began on October 7.

Despite international calls for a ceasefire, peace remains elusive more than eight months into the conflict. Pakistan’s leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, used their Eid messages to express unity with Palestinians and those in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The religious festival, which involves the sacrifice of animals such as goats, cows, and camels, honors Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to Allah. This year’s observance was marked by heightened security nationwide to ensure public safety.

Prime Minister Sharif conveyed warm Eid greetings to Pakistanis and Muslims globally, emphasizing the festival’s significance in commemorating Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) faith. He highlighted Eid ul Adha as a time for fostering community bonds and supporting the less fortunate.

While wishing for global peace and prosperity during Eid ul-Adha, Sharif also addressed the plight of Palestinians and Kashmiris under foreign occupation. He called for continued prayers for their courage and determination in seeking self-determination.

The spirit of Eid ul Adha brings a message of solidarity and unity that Prime Minister Sharif hopes will lead to prosperity and joy for the Muslim ummah.
