Trent Boult Announces Retirement from T20 World Cup

In a significant announcement, veteran New Zealand pacer Trent Boult has confirmed that he will not participate in future editions of the T20 World Cup. The revelation came after Boult’s impressive performance in New Zealand’s commanding victory over Uganda on Saturday.

“Speaking on behalf of myself, this will be my last T20 World Cup,” Boult stated in a post-match press conference following his exceptional spell of 4-1-7-2 in the match.

Despite the win, New Zealand’s journey in the tournament has come to an end, following earlier defeats to Afghanistan and West Indies. Their final match in the T20 World Cup will be against Papua New Guinea in Trinidad, marking Boult’s last appearance in the prestigious tournament.

“We’re devastated to not qualify,” Boult expressed. “We’ve been outplayed earlier in the tournament, and we haven’t qualified for good reason. It’s unfortunate, but that’s how T20 cricket goes.”

Boult, aged 34, has been a formidable force in the T20 World Cup, claiming 32 wickets in 17 matches. He currently stands as the tenth-highest wicket-taker in the tournament’s history. Boult was released from his central contract two years ago and has since made limited appearances at the international level.

With Boult’s departure, New Zealand faces a significant challenge in filling the void in their bowling attack for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
