Pakistan has successfully launched its advanced communication satellite, PAKSAT MM1, into orbit in collaboration with China. This marks Islamabad’s second satellite in space, reflecting significant progress in the nation’s space capabilities and digital infrastructure.

The PAKSAT MM1 satellite was launched from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Center (XSLC). According to the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco), the satellite will take approximately four days to reach its designated orbit.

PAKSAT MM1 is poised to play a crucial role in Pakistan’s digital transformation. It aims to provide high-speed internet to remote areas, establishing a robust communication network. This advancement is expected to meet the growing demands of the telecom sector, ensuring seamless connectivity and addressing the increasing need for advanced internet services.

Suparco stated that PAKSAT MM1 is a high-power multi-mission satellite offering communication services across C, Ku, Ka Bands, and SBAS services in L Band. These capabilities are set to boost Pakistan’s socio-economic development by enhancing communication infrastructure.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the nation on the successful launch, emphasizing its potential to provide the fastest internet facilities throughout Pakistan.

He highlighted that PAKSAT MM1 would not only improve the lives of citizens but also promote economic activities, e-commerce, and e-governance.

Prior to PAKSAT MM1, Pakistan launched its first lunar mission, ICUBE-Q, on May 3, aboard China’s Chang’E6 from Hainan. The ICUBE-Q mission, developed by the Institute of Space Technology (IST) in collaboration with China’s Shanghai University SJTU and SUPARCO, marked Pakistan’s initial foray into lunar exploration. The satellite successfully transmitted its first images from lunar orbit, offering unique insights into the moon’s surface.

The launch of PAKSAT MM1 signifies a significant advancement in Pakistan’s space and communication capabilities. With enhanced internet connectivity and a sophisticated communication network, the satellite is expected to drive socio-economic progress and support various digital initiatives across the country.
