Raoof Hasan Claims Assailants Tried to “Slit” His Throat

Islamabad, Pakistan – In a shocking turn of events earlier this week, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Information Secretary Raoof Hasan survived a brutal attack in Islamabad. Addressing the media on Wednesday, Hasan revealed that the assailants aimed to “slit” his throat, underscoring the severity of the incident.

Flanked by PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub Khan and senior leader Azam Swati at the PTI secretariat, Hasan emotionally recounted the harrowing experience. He emphasized the relentless adversities faced by his party members, comparing them to his ordeal. Hasan disclosed that he had been threatened three days prior to the attack, with his aggressors warning that they were tracking him.

Criticizing the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the police post-attack, Hasan condemned the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government, accusing it of subservience to powerful entities. He asserted that despite numerous attempts, opponents have failed to undermine PTI’s robust narrative. Hasan vowed that PTI leaders would remain steadfast and unyielding.

The attack, perpetrated by a group of four individuals, reportedly including transgender persons, left Hasan injured.

Highlighting the plight of PTI founder Imran Khan, currently incarcerated in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, Hasan suggested that the current administration would soon recognize the necessity of engaging in dialogue with Khan.

Omar Ayub Khan denounced the attack on Hasan as an “assassination bid” and criticized the FIR, describing it as a police effort to dilute the case. He called for the establishment of a judicial commission to thoroughly investigate the assault.

In response, Islamabad police refuted Hasan’s claims, stating that the FIR was drafted based on a written request submitted by Hasan himself, verified by his signature and thumb impression in the presence of his legal team. The police challenged Hasan to identify discrepancies between the FIR and his initial statement.

The federal government has taken serious notice of the incident, forming a committee to investigate the attack. Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar confirmed this development, labeling the attack as “regrettable and sad” and emphasizing that such violence should not occur. Additionally, a police investigation team has been appointed to probe the matter.

The attack, perpetrated by a group of four individuals, reportedly including transgender persons, left Hasan injured. A video accompanying the PTI’s statement showed Hasan, visibly wounded and bleeding, pleading for medical assistance as he entered a building.
