Pakistan Clinches Victory Over Canada in Sultan Azlan Shah Cup

Pakistan’s hockey team secured a thrilling 5-4 victory against Canada in their fourth pool match of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, strengthening their bid for a spot in the final.

The win elevates Pakistan’s standing in the tournament, with 10 points garnered from four matches, positioning them as formidable contenders for the coveted title.

Canada initially took the lead with goals from Sean Davis and Harbir Sidhu in the 5th and 17th minutes, respectively. However, Pakistan’s Abubakar Mahmood equalized with two goals in quick succession in the 28th and 29th minutes.

Following halftime, Pakistan surged ahead with goals from Arshad Liaqat, Rana Waheed Ashraf, and Ghazanfar Ali in the 36th, 44th, and 45th minutes, solidifying their lead.

Although Canada attempted a comeback with goals from Sean Davis and Avijot Butter in the 45th and 50th minutes, respectively, Pakistan maintained their advantage until the final whistle.

The Sultan Azlan Shah Cup features six participating teams, including hosts Malaysia, Pakistan, Korea, Japan, New Zealand, and Canada. Pakistan’s upcoming match against New Zealand on Friday will determine their final standing in the pool stage.
