Netflix Holds Open Casting Call for New Western Series

Netflix has announced an open casting call for its upcoming series, “The Abandons,” featuring renowned actresses Gillian Anderson and Lena Headey. Anderson, known for her iconic roles in “The X Files” and “The Crown,” and Headey, famous for portraying Cersei Lannister on “Game of Thrones,” are set to star in this new venture scripted by Kurt Sutter of “Sons of Anarchy” fame.

The series is scheduled to film from May 14 to Oct. 17, with Netflix seeking individuals for various roles.

Described as a 1850s western, “The Abandons” follows the tale of two strong-willed matriarchs navigating the rugged frontier. Headey will portray Fiona Nolan, a resilient figure who adopts four orphans and fiercely protects her family. Meanwhile, Anderson takes on the role of Constance Van Ness, determined to expand her mining fortune and consolidate power within the Van Ness clan.

The series is scheduled to film from May 14 to Oct. 17, with Netflix seeking individuals for various roles. The casting call, shared by Keep Alberta Rolling on social media, calls for authentic looks, diverse characters, and individuals ranging from blue-collar workers to affluent personas and amputees.

Men, women, and children of all ethnicities between the ages of eight and 80 are encouraged to attend the casting call at the Cascade Room in the Double Tree hotel, located at 2120 16 Ave. N.E., on Saturday, April 6, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

As anticipation builds for “The Abandons,” Netflix’s open casting call presents an exciting opportunity for aspiring actors to join the cast of this highly-anticipated western series alongside Anderson and Headey.
