Pakistan Cricket Board Plans Fitness Camp for PSL Standouts
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, unveiled plans on Friday to incorporate standout performers from the Pakistan Super League season 9 into the upcoming fitness and training camp, gearing up for the New Zealand tour.
During a meeting at the PCB headquarters in Lahore, Naqvi, along with Chief Selector Wahab Riaz and other officials, deliberated on potential candidates for the camp preceding the New Zealand series, scheduled to commence on April 18. The tour serves as crucial preparation ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup in June.
Emphasizing merit-based selection, Naqvi underscored the importance of choosing players solely on the basis of their performances, stressing that personal recommendations should not influence the decision-making process.
“The players selected on merit and performance have the ability to produce good results,” Naqvi affirmed, highlighting the significance of fair and unbiased selection criteria.
Chief Selector Wahab Riaz presented a comprehensive report highlighting the exceptional performances of bowlers and batters throughout the recently concluded PSL season. Notable achievers such as Muhammad Irfan Khan, Saim Ayub, Azam Khan, and Usama Mir were recognized for their outstanding contributions to their respective teams.
Shadab Khan, who emerged as the ‘Player of the Tournament,’ received accolades for his exceptional leadership skills, while Babar Azam, captain of Peshawar Zalmi, was commended for his consistent performance throughout the league.
As the PCB gears up for the training camp, the focus remains on nurturing talent and honing the skills of promising players, ensuring Pakistan’s competitive edge in the upcoming international fixtures.
