The Punjab Home Department’s recent decision to prohibit Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan from conducting meetings inside Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail for a period of two weeks has sparked concerns over the safety of the former prime minister.

Citing a security alert, the authorities issued a notification imposing restrictions on all visits, meetings, and interviews within the jail premises. The notification emphasized the installation of barbed wires outside the jail and mandated a swift security audit involving officials from the police special branch, Intelligence Bureau, and jail staff.

PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan expressed apprehension regarding the sudden ban on Imran Khan’s meetings, raising concerns about his safety.

Additionally, stringent security measures such as mandatory body searches for all individuals entering the jail, a clearance operation in the vicinity, and security clearance for government contractors operating within jails were outlined in the notification.

PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan expressed apprehension regarding the sudden ban on Imran Khan’s meetings, raising concerns about his safety. He criticized the lack of communication from the authorities regarding the two-week restriction and demanded immediate consultations with the incarcerated PTI founder.

Imran Khan, currently serving a cumulative sentence of 31 years in various cases, has faced multiple convictions including a 10-year sentence in the cipher case and a 14-year sentence in the Toshakhana reference case, along with his wife Bushra Bibi. The couple was also sentenced to seven years in the un-Islamic nikah case.

Amid calls for Khan’s release and concerns about his well-being in prison, recent incidents including the arrest of terrorists possessing a map of Adiala Jail and the discovery of an explosive device near the facility have heightened security fears.

As PTI continues to advocate for Imran Khan’s release from what they label as fabricated cases, questions linger about the safety and security of the former prime minister during his incarceration in Adiala Jail.
