Zardari’s Landslide Victory: 411 Votes Seal Presidential Win

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has unveiled the outcome of the presidential election, declaring PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari as the triumphant candidate, securing 411 votes against his opponent, PkMAP Chairman Mehmood Khan Achakzai, who garnered 181 votes.

According to a statement released by the ECP on behalf of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, the presidential polls took place across key cities including Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, Peshawar, and Islamabad. The results from all five locations were compiled and submitted to the ECP secretariat.

With a total of 1,185 seats in the electoral college, of which 92 were vacant, the remaining 1,093 voters exercised their right to vote. Out of 1,044 votes cast, nine were invalidated, resulting in 1,035 valid votes.

The official Result of Count on Form-VII will be finalized and transmitted to the federal government on the following day, after receiving the original records from the presiding officers.

Meanwhile, outgoing President Dr. Arif Alvi expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the people of Pakistan, expressing optimism for the nation’s future.

In response to the election outcome, PkMAP Chairman Mehmood Khan Achakzai urged PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif to foster a conducive political atmosphere within the party. Emphasizing the need for unity and collaboration, Achakzai highlighted the significance of resolving parliamentary issues through dialogue rather than litigation.

Unofficial results from the joint sitting of the National Assembly and Senate indicate Zardari’s overwhelming support, securing 255 votes, while Achakzai trailed behind with 119 votes.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari lauded his father’s victory, underscoring the significant margin by which Zardari clinched the presidency. With a detailed breakdown of votes garnered from various assemblies, Bilawal emphasized Zardari’s widespread support across different regions of Pakistan.
