Pakistan Gender Climate Award 2024
In celebration of International Women’s Day, a prestigious coalition of organizations, including the Embassy of France, Agence Française de Développement (AFD), the European Union Delegation, the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the Civil Society Coalition for Climate Change (CSCCC), proudly announced the winners of the second edition of the Gender Climate Award.
The aim of this esteemed award is to spotlight the unwavering commitment and exemplary leadership of women in combating climate change across three pivotal categories: climate action, green business, and young climate journalism.
The distinguished recipients of the Pakistan Gender Climate Award 2024 are Qandeel Rehman for Climate Action, Umbreen Arif for Green Business, and Khalida Niaz for Young Climate Journalism. Each winner will be granted PKR 1.2 million to bolster their initiatives and further cultivate the gender climate nexus within their respective spheres of influence.
The Pakistan Gender Climate Award 2024 serves as a beacon illuminating the invaluable contributions and leadership of Pakistani women as equal partners in driving transformative change. From civil society to academia, science to media, and business to various other sectors, the dynamic and resourceful women of Pakistan are making significant strides.
It is essential to underscore that climate change does not affect everyone equally. Women and girls bear a disproportionate burden, exacerbating existing inequalities. The adverse effects of climate change not only threaten women’s livelihoods but also their health and well-being. Women play a vital role in agriculture and natural resource management, underscoring the urgent need to harness their potential in the fight against climate change.
Aisha Khan, Executive Director of the Civil Society Coalition for Climate Change (CSCCC), emphasized, “Women are the future changemakers. They adapt, conserve, and nurture. It is imperative to recognize their strengths and utilize their knowledge and skills to navigate the climate crisis. Investing in women today will illuminate our collective future.”
The award ceremony, scheduled for 8th May 2024, will pay tribute to the remarkable achievements of the winners, symbolizing a powerful endorsement of women’s leadership in climate action.
