As temperatures plummet across Canada, extreme cold warnings have been issued in various provinces, with meteorologists forecasting chilling conditions in multiple regions.

According to CTV Your Morning’s meteorologist Kelsey McEwen, a strong arctic cold front is causing temperatures to drop significantly, particularly in provinces like Ontario and Quebec. In southern Ontario, areas around the lower Great Lakes, including Toronto, will experience cold Saturday temperatures, with morning wind chills expected to reach the -20s. Additionally, parts of Ontario are under a dense fog advisory Friday morning, adding to the weather challenges.

In northern Ontario, extreme cold warnings have been issued, while lake-effect snow is anticipated in regions near Huron and Georgian Bay.

Despite the frigid conditions, McEwen offers a glimmer of hope, noting that the cold front is temporary, with temperatures expected to rise again by Sunday or Monday.

Meanwhile, Atlantic Canada is bracing for rain and snow, with rainfall warnings issued for the Maritimes and significant rainfall expected in Newfoundland and Labrador. McEwen warns of potential runoff due to rain, snowmelt, and frozen ground, particularly concerning for areas with inadequate drainage.

Residents in the Northwest Territories, including Yellowknife, are preparing for a winter storm, characterized by strong wind gusts and heavy snowfall, resulting in harsh wind chills nearing -40.

In Western Canada, British Columbia and Alberta mountain passes are forecasted to receive snow and blowing snow from Sunday into Monday.

As of Friday morning, no weather alerts have been issued for the Prairie provinces or Yukon.

The extreme weather conditions serve as a reminder for residents to take necessary precautions and stay informed about local advisories and warnings. Stay tuned for further updates on weather developments across Canada.
